Biomolecules

2.4.2 Enzymes

Biomolecules

  1. Carbohydrates

    1. Carbohydrates are made from units of sugar
    2. Carbohydrates that contain only one sugar unit, such as glucose, or two sugar units, such as sucrose, are called simple sugars
    3. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch and cellulose, are long chains of sugar units bonded together
  2. Lipids

    1. Lipids consist of three molecules of fatty acids bonded to a molecule of glycerol
  3. Proteins

    1. Proteins are long chains of amino acids folded to produce a specific shape that enables other molecules to fit into it
    2. Proteins act as structural components of tissues such as muscles, hormones, antibodies and enzymes
